OBS widgets: on-screen chat and text-to-speech

A Koster widget is a link for a Browser source in OBS. It shows Twitch chat on top of your game or reads messages and channel point rewards aloud. You set up the look and the voice on the site with a live preview, and changes show up on stream right away, no new link needed.

How it works

  1. Create a widget

Under “OBS widgets”, pick what you need: on-screen chat or text-to-speech only.

  2. Paste the link into OBS

Add a Browser source to your scene and paste the widget link into it.

  3. Style it on the site

Theme, font, background and message behavior change in Koster, and OBS picks them up on its own.

What it does

  • Chat styling

Dark or light theme, text size, weight and color, background and padding for the whole chat and separately for messages, rewards and system messages.

  • Message behavior

New messages at the bottom or the top, entrance animation, how long a message stays, badges and emotes.

  • Filters

Hide system messages, “!” commands and channel point rewards.

  • Text-to-speech

Two Russian voices, speed from 0.5× to 1.5×, volume, reading the username and a chime before each message.

  • What not to read aloud

Messages from listed bots, commands, links, emotes, extra symbols and messages with banned words. Very long text gets trimmed.

  • Text-to-speech for points

Only messages from a channel point reward are read aloud. Koster creates the Twitch reward itself, and you can have two rewards with different voices.

  • Several widgets

A widget for each scene. Koster warns you if text-to-speech is on in two widgets and a message would be read twice.

Create a text-to-speech widget or turn on text-to-speech in a chat widget, then add it to OBS as a Browser source. Voice, speed and filters are set on the site.
